DESCRIPTION

This 1971 GMC K1500 was rebuilt over four years. Work included overhauling the 350ci V8 and the three-speed automatic transmission, repainting the bodywork, reupholstering the interior, and overhauling the brakes, suspension, and air conditioning. Equipment includes front disc brakes, 15″ wheels, locking front hubs, power steering, chrome bumpers, an aftermarket dual exhaust system, lap belts, and a retro-style digital radio with an aftermarket sound system.

The truck left the factory in Medium Bronze with a white roof (551) and the body was removed and the bed floor and wheel tubs were replaced before the exterior was refinished. The grille, windshield, rear window, bumpers, mirrors, door handles, exterior lights, body trim, weatherstripping were all replaced during the build.

White powder-coated 15″ wheels are mounted with 31×10.5″ Linglong Crosswind A/T tires. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums, and the truck is equipped with Superwinch front locking hubs. Work during the refurbishment included replacing the steering gearbox and pump, the shocks, and the master cylinder and brake booster as well as the rear drums and shoes, and the front calipers, rotors, and pads.

The cab interior metal was repainted and the bench seat was reupholstered in parchment vinyl trim with debossed patterns that extend to the replacement door panels. Additional work included installing a sound-deadening material, fitting new carpeting, and replacing the ignition switch, the armrests, the glove box, the air conditioning vents and duct hoses, the rearview mirror, and the climate control panel. Appointments include lap belts, manual crank windows, and a digital push-button radio linked to Scosche speakers mounted under the bench.

A replacement two-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a tilting column and fronts replacement illuminated instrumentation consisting of a tachometer, a 100-mph speedometer, and gauges for fuel level, battery charge, temperature, vacuum, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 1,900 miles, all of which were added under current ownership. The seller notes fluctuations of the speedometer and tachometer needles.

The 350ci V8 was overhauled in 2016 and is equipped with a PerTronix distributor and ignition coil. The carburetor was rebuilt, a dual exhaust system was installed and the radiator, water pump, alternator, and the battery box and battery were replaced. The air conditioning system was converted to utilize R134a refrigerant and the compressor, the receiver dryer, the POA valve, and the refrigerant lines were replaced.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a Turbo-Hydramatic three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The transmission was overhauled in 2016, the transfer case was reportedly resealed, and the frame was powder-coated in black and fitted with replacement body mounts.
