DESCRIPTION

This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS was built in April 1970 and originally delivered to Larry Smith Chevrolet in Charlotte, North Carolina. The current owner purchased the car in 2010 and commissioned a refurbishment that included a repaint in Green Mist with black stripes and a black vinyl roof. The interior is trimmed in dark green vinyl, and power is provided by a numbers-matching 402ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional equipment includes a cowl hood, the F41 performance suspension package, power-assisted front disc brakes, and a Vintage Air climate-control system.

14″ Magnum 500 wheels wear SS center caps and are wrapped in 215/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires that were reportedly installed in 2011. Equipment includes power steering, power-assisted brakes utilizing front discs and rear drums, and the F41 performance suspension package with front and rear sway bars and boxed rear lower control arms.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a TH-400 three-speed automatic transmission and a 3.31:1 12-bolt rear differential with Posi-traction.

The body is finished in Green Mist (45) with a black vinyl roof in place of the factory dark green vinyl roof. The seller states that the black stripes were applied underneath the clear coat during the 2011 refurbishment. Equipment includes a cowl hood, chrome bumpers, and SS badges.

The interior is trimmed in dark green vinyl with matching door panels, dark green carpets, and black trim. Equipment includes front bucket seats, a center console surrounding the horseshoe floor shifter, a Delco push-button AM/FM radio, retractable lap belts, and a Vintage Air climate-control system.

Instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for amperage, water temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 57k miles, approximately 200 of which were added by the current owner since 2010. True mileage is unknown. The tachometer does not work.

The 402ci V8 is topped with a four-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 350 horsepower. According to the seller, the engine and transmission were rebuilt before the current owner purchased the car in 2010. The battery was replaced and an oil change was performed in July 2020.

The final eight digits of the engine identification stamp match the final eight digits of the VIN tag on the dash, and the suffix code “CTW” indicates an L34 402ci V8 with 350 horsepower paired with a TH-400 automatic transmission.
