DESCRIPTION

This 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SL is finished in Signal Red over black upholstery and is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a black convertible top, a body-color hardtop, 14″ steel wheels, air conditioning, a Becker Mexico cassette stereo, and VDO instrumentation.

The car was repainted in Signal Red (568) in 2002, at which time the black convertible top, headliner, weatherstripping, and windshield were replaced. The hardtop back and quarter glasses were also removed, cleaned, and reinstalled with replacement seals at that time. Service in 2023 included paintless dent repair and a front bumper bracket adjustment.

The 14″ steel wheels were mounted with 185-section Phoenix whitewall tires in June 2026. The car is equipped with power steering and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. Service in 2024 included replacing the brake booster and brake lines and service in 2026 included replacing the power steering belt and resealing the power steering box.

VDO instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. Service invoices dating from 2002 to 2026 show mileage ranging from 98k to 100k miles, and the current Pennsylvania title lists the mileage as 98,876. The five-digit odometer shows 232 miles and has rolled over.

The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six features Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Service in 2021 included replacing the radiator, oil cooler, engine air filter, fuel filter, fuel injection pump filter, and power steering filter. In 2023, the cylinder head was repaired, the engine mounts, fuel injection lines, valve cover gasket, and washer pump were replaced, and an Interstate battery was installed. The starter wires were repaired and the distributor rotor and ignition wires were replaced in 2023. The spark plugs were replaced in 2026.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Service in 2021 included changing the transmission filter and differential fluid in 2021, as well as replacing a transmission bushing in 2024.
