DESCRIPTION

This 1968 Ford Mustang GT fastback was built on July 16, 1968, and delivered new to Ed Martin Ford of Indianapolis, Indiana. The car is finished in black over red vinyl upholstery and is powered by a 428ci Cobra Jet V8 paired with a C6 three-speed automatic transmission and 3.50:1 Traction-Lok rear axle. Equipment includes the GT equipment package and aftermarket air conditioning as well as a center console, power steering, power front disc brakes, a Sport Deck rear seat, a tachometer, and a retro-style digital stereo. The car was refurbished in 2003 and acquired in 2019.

The car left the factory finished in Raven Black (A) and was repainted during previous ownership. Features include a hood scoop, a grille with integrated fog lights, GT badging, rear quarter vents, dual mirrors, polished rocker trim, reverse lamps, and dual exhaust outlets exiting below the rear valance. The windshield, windshield washer reservoir, and right mirror were replaced in 2021.

The chrome 14″ wheels wear beauty rings and GT hubcaps and are mounted with F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas white letter tires. A full-size spare is mounted in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. The shock absorbers, power steering hoses, sway bars, spring perches, and steering gear were replaced in 2021.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a folding Sport Deck rear seat upholstered in red vinyl with channeled inserts joined by a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Features include aftermarket air conditioning, faux woodgrain accents, a center console, polished door sills, lap belts, and a retro-style digital stereo. The clock, door panels, vent window handles, window crank knobs, and folding seat bumpers were replaced, and the air conditioning system was installed in 2021.

The two-spoke steering wheel has a chrome horn ring and frames a 120-mph speedometer and an analog clock as well as gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 68k miles, approximately 500 of which have been added during current ownership.

The R-code 428ci Cobra Jet V8 was factory rated at 335 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. The starter solenoid boot, starter, fan clutch, water pump, spark plugs, valve covers, engine gaskets, vacuum hoses, and belts were replaced in 2021, and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a C-6 three-speed automatic transmission and 3.50:1 Traction-Lok rear axle. A rear axle seal was replaced in 2021.
