DESCRIPTION
This 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 sport coupe underwent a refurbishment before it was purchased by the seller in 2018. Work included repainting the body in red, fitting a black vinyl roof, and installing a replacement 396ci V8. A three-speed TH350 automatic transmission has been installed, and it is linked with a 12-bolt PosiTraction rear axle. Further equipment includes long-tube headers, 15″ Rally-style wheels, power steering, and cabin appointments consisting of front bucket seats, an aftermarket stereo, and air conditioning.
The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in black vinyl and are joined by matching door panels. Appointments include a center console, air conditioning, and an aftermarket stereo.
The red bodywork is accented by a black vinyl roof and simulated hood vents, and chrome trim outlines the grille, windows, and wheel arches. The wiper motor requires repair.
Rally-style 15″ wheels wear derby-style hubcaps and are mounted with BFGoodrich and Cooper Cobra tires. The car is equipped with power steering along with power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes. The front springs are said to have been replaced under current ownership.
The three-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket wrap and fronts a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, amperage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. A tachometer is installed ahead of the shifter. The five-digit odometer shows 69k miles, approximately 1,400 of which were added under current ownership. The speedometer gear was replaced in July 2026. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 396ci V8 was installed in 2017, according to the seller, who notes that it has an Edelbrock carburetor and long-tube exhaust headers.
The seller tells us the three-speed TH350 automatic is equipped with a heavy-duty fluid cooler, and it sends power to the rear wheels through a 12-bolt PosiTraction rear axle. A transmission fluid service was completed in July 2026.
